Application Description
Not to Kids
The Not to Kids Coalition is a network of public health units in Ontario whose goal is to create a healthy, tobacco-free generation. The coalition aims to contribute to an ongoing reduction in the number of youth who use tobacco products and to reduce access to tobacco from all sources.
Youth tobacco use affects the entire community. All community members have a shared responsibility to not sell, buy for or give tobacco to anyone under the age of 19.
Why is this an issue?
The tobacco industry has a history of marketing their addictive products to youth and need to replace current smokers dying from their products with new ones
The addiction of nicotine in tobacco keeps you smoking or chewing
There are 4000 chemicals in tobacco smoke. More than 50 of them can cause cancer.
Tobacco kills 12,000 people in Ontario each year.
The Not to Kids Coalition acknowledges the use of traditional tobacco within the Aboriginal community for cultural and spiritual purposes.
