'Night Sight' is a very low light, motion sensing camera, designed for night or day time operation.

The iPhone camera performs extremely well in the 'nearly' dark regions of the spectrum. This application uses histographic equalisation to process dark video frames, in real time, translating them into more visible imagery. It is a digital processing technique that is extremely effective when combined with the iPhone camera.

Originally written as an example of IOS image processing techniques, the application is presented here for wider distribution.

In use, the application presents a real time 'Night Vision' type view. There are no tricks here, this is a genuine attempt to deliver a night vision camera application. Do not confuse this application with other 'pretend' night vision applications that simply colour the images.

Clearly the iPhone camera hardware is not designed for use in complete darkness. However, the application is very effective at taking photographs in extremely low light conditions, particularly when using the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5.

The application allows still frame images, to be captured and saved to the Camera Roll. In addition the motion sensing camera will record images to the Camera Roll and Photo Stream whilst unattended. The motion sensing camera works in both 'Night' and 'Normal' mode.

Note for iPhone 4 users:

This application works best on an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5. Reasonable results can be obtained from the iPhone 4. However, with the iPhone 4, the video image is slightly jerky due to the reduced processing power available. In addition, the iPhone 4 images can appear fuzzy at times, due to the lower camera quality.
