Text your location to ANYONE, even if they don't have smartphones!
**WHAT IS NEARBY?**
Nearby is a super-simple app that will grab your current location using the iPhone's GPS, turn it into a Google Maps URL, and let you text it to anyone. Instantly share where you are with anyone in the world who knows how to use an Internet browser!
**WHY NOT OTHER LOCATION APPS?**
There are a lot of ways to share your location, but many are flawed. For example, Google Latitude is a great service; however, only a very limited number of cell phones can make use of it. Networks like Loopt are only useful if everyone signs up for it and keeps updating their location. Twitter geotagging is a nice option, too, but it won't help out if your friends aren't on Twitter.
**WHY NEARBY?**
Nearby takes out this "networking" middleman. It is NOT a network, and it is NOT a service. It is a tool to text and share your current location as a Google Maps link that literally anyone can open. These links will automatically open in the Maps app on any iPhone, and work on many other smartphones, too, so you don't have to worry about compatibility. Even if the recipient does not have a smartphone, he or she can enter the link into any Internet browser to see where you are! Nearby is also incredibly easy to use: open it up and allow the map to locate you, and once the blip is accurate enough, tap either Text Message or Copy to share your location!
**WHO IS NEARBY FOR?**
Anyone who has ever been texted "Where are you?"
**WHAT IF I HAVE AN IPOD TOUCH?**
Although the iPod touch does not have GPS, it does have wifi-based locating technology, which Nearby can make use of as well. If you install Nearby on an iPod touch, the text messaging feature will be disabled and you will instead be able to copy the link to the iPod's virtual clipboard and paste it anywhere--in an instant message, email, Facebook, or anywhere else! (The iPhone can copy links, too!)
Nearby is completely free and supported with iAds. Innovative updates, including retina display support, are already underway, so please support the advertisers!
