Nautical Flags was created with the goal of helping non-professional mariners advance their interests, while giving professional mariners a valuable resource to use on the water. Professional mariners will find this program to be a handy reference while on watch or studying for exams. No Internet connection is needed to access the information, so even mid-ocean everything is readily accessible. All of the information contained in the application is internationally recognized and conveys the same meaning throughout the world. Updates are always and will always be free!

Program Features:

Flags - displays a picture of each flag and a host of other important information.

Meanings - shows the message each single flag conveys. This function also features a search feature which refines it’s search results with each key stroke. Can’t remember what flag is used to let others know you need assistance? Simply start typing the word assistance and the results are refined and narrowed down as you type!

Spell it with Flags - makes spelling out plain language messages simple and easy! Use the keyboard to type the word or message you wish to spell out using code flags. Your iPhone will show the flags required, the order they go in, and will even display the number of each flag required for the message. This is especially useful for knowing if you have the flags required to spell a short message, or ensuring you only buy the flags you will need in the future.

Racing Flags – the program includes a reference section for flags commonly used in racing. The standard international system established by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and recognized and adopted by US Sailing as the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), is included. The application contains all the recognized signals including postponement, abandonment, recall, preparatory, signals changing the next leg, and all others.

Coastal Warnings – Ever been by the water and seen the small craft warning flapping in the wind? Do you know what it looks like? Do you know what its exact meaning is? How high are the winds predicted to be that day? The Coastal Warning flag system tells you what the general area forecast is, and what type of weather you can expect to see. In early 1989 the system was retired, but brought back in mid 2007 in response to public demand. This warning network is an excellent guide used by yacht clubs, Coast Guard stations, and occasionally by private citizens to warn boaters about forecasted marine conditions.

Quizzes – This feature makes learning, or staying current on the flags, fun and easy. Simply select the group of flags you want to be quizzed on and start learning! You can be quizzed by the flag image, or by it’s meaning, and must select the correct answer based on four choices. After you make your selection Nautical Flags immediately shows if you are correct helping to reinforce the information, and aid in the learning process. If you are incorrect, the application lets you know, shows the correct answer, and gives you a brief opportunity to review the information. Nautical Flags keeps track of your score and lets you know how you are doing every step of the way!

Flash Cards – This allows you to review and learn the flags using a flash card format. There are a number of selectable options for tailoring the program to your specific style of learning. Using this feature in conjunction with the quiz function will make knowing the flags second nature.
