Application Description
Report your sightings of the wildlife you see around you whilst you’re out and about!
NatureSqueak intersects people, nature, place, and time.
You “Squeak” short observations about the wildlife you see are seeing around you right now, and you can see other users’ “Squeaks” – their sightings – on the map too.
Squeaks are created by you selecting the species you’ve seen from the pick list (or entering your own if you can’t see the right one in the scrolling list), and include up to 110 characters for a snippet of information. Because the time of your Squeak is also collected, Squeaks can be filtered by when they were reported - between 1 hour and 30 days hours (you decide). They can also be tagged with a photograph taken at the time you create the Squeak.
Squeaks on the map can be expanded to show more information and any tagged photograph.
You see all Squeaks. All users see your Squeaks.
You only see current, “live” Squeaks. These are Squeaks that are up to 30 days old from the time they were first created. When a Squeak expires after 30 days, it’s gone. You can filter the Squeaks you see on the map by selecting a time scale up to 30 days. This gives you a better view on what people have been seeing recently, right where you are, or where you are interested in.
Whilst NatureSqueak is currently provided with a species list that is generally for the UK and Ireland, it is intended to be universal. The species list will grow as we acquire the information for other countries and regions.
