Adopt a Chicken is a mobile app that allows users to engage with a virtual fast food chicken throughout its 6 week lifespan, learning about its health, diet, living conditions, death and incorporation into fast food. The engagement takes the form of multiple-choice interactions with the chicken, which can be initiated by the user, by launching the app or by the chicken, which will send mobile phone notifications.

By teaching users about the poor living conditions, health issues and treatment of chickens that are used in fast food, users have a guided opportunity to review and reinforce their own values around animal treatment and healthy eating, which is known to contribute to behavior change in dietary habits. Having a virtual chicken show you what its life is like will foster an understanding of fast food livestock cruelty and quality, as well as a new awareness of and aversion for the fast food industrial complex.
