Motor is an app that was developed to perform continuous, remote monitoring of motion for patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's disease patients can experience a range of motor symptoms including tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity, gait disturbances and dyskinesias. Symptom severity can vary substantially over the course of each day, and over periods of weeks or months, but this variability is currently difficult to capture during visits to the clinic. The purpose of this app is to capture motion data using the built-in accelerometer while the iPhone or iPod Touch (no iPad for the obvious reasons) is worn on the patient's hip or arm. This data is transmitted to a server for analysis. This app is currently being used in research studies at the Medical College of Wisconsin, but this free version is being available to the research community. At present, only is used Wi-Fi to transmit data. However, data is buffered during periods when if Wi-Fi is unavailable.

Features:

1) Simple, intuitive interface with large buttons to facilitate easy operation for patients.

2) In order to avoid stray button presses, a double tap is required

3) Event marker and Recording date-time embedded with motion data.

4) Every filename has the Device ID embedded in it. Hence files from different devices can be sorted on the server. Also, unique filename is chosen for every file generated from the same device.

5) Data is transmitted via Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi is not available, the app records data offline and then uploads when it becomes available.

6) File Transfer is supported using FTP. The user must specify the FTP server name and login credentials; otherwise data is saved to device.
