Take a picture of your friend, or choose an existing one, then choose from several recognition tools. Use the face scanner, or iris recognition. For more fun try the fingerprint scanner, which will detect if he takes his finger too soon. Or use the voice recognition, except you are in the middle of a crowd, to avoid surprised faces.
