Behind the App

In early summer 2011, David Glidden was in the Metro with two friends when one of them said “There are two things to know about the Metro: which direction you’re going and where to stand on the platform so you get off right at the escalator when you arrive at your station.” That got David thinking. He used his Notes app on his iPod Touch to record for each station where he should board the train in order to be let off right at the escalator at his destination. But this became very tedious and he teamed up with his college friend Andrew Thal to produce an app that would hold all of this crucial information. From August 2011 through December 2011, David and Andrew visited every Metro station to see which door of which car was closest to each exit in each station. The result? Metro Master.
