★ The author, WangAnyi,thinks one will never delve into the history of the place where one lives,but she did it and,based on this,tells stories about Shanghai where she lives—lanes,foreign style buildings and changes in the lives of people who live in these buildings.Illustrations by Li Xueyuan and Li Xi,all famous artists in China,are very entertaining.
★ It is really difficult for me to describe the city where I live—Shanghai—as all its impressions are mixed into my diverse personal life. And then,it begins to seem to be private.I could not,however,wake up to this aforementioned idea a dozen of years ago.I tried to look fo the root of Shanghai with determination and vigor…
