Futher Information:
In 1966 in England we had only 3 channels of black and white TV and, with no commercial radio or local radio, relied on the BBC's 3 main radio stations. All we could do was to watch TV and listen to snatches of radio as provided by the BBC. We Knew no better.
Science and technology were very exciting, instead of being stuck with trains, flights were becoming available to ordinary people who were beginning to holiday in Spain. You could fly with your car to France and drive it across Europe. We were interested in Ford using computers for the first time. The only real information was from the many excellent magazines both weekly and monthly.
As a teenager wanting to learn everything about the space race, I would get up at 4 o'clock in the morning to watch a line by line black and white picture of the Moon from NASA's latest landing. A friend went to work on programming a 'UNIVAC computer.' We were destroying the British Class system, fully employed we look forward to an expanding future.
Motor racing was brilliant; the year kicked off with the 'Tasman' series from Australia, we had Formula One mainly in Europe for the summer with a sprinkling of sportscars throughout the year from all over the world. Rallying was similarly spaced through the year from all over the world and the last part of the year promised more excitement with 'Can Am' series.
The highlight was obviously 'Le Mans' but we were especially happy it followed Graham Hill's rocky win at the 'Indianapolis 500.'
Although it is our intention to entertain, the six months of research that went into the making also mean we intend to inform viewers. We provide access to all we have learned.
This is one of our major projects. We at Flip-Time have done all the work - sound, music, drawings, animations, text, story line - only history provided the result.
The Lemans race was a great example of true sportsmanship and competition. I and my business partner are going to try and change the present by interfacing with values of the past and requesting people to not loose their humanity.
