Application Description
The Childrens Psychotropic Medication Calculator is designed to automate the process of reviewing a child’s medications. It allows the user to create a database of children and their medications. When the medication information is entered, the application will provide warning messages, if the rules are triggered.
The application database manages up to 20 children with an unlimited number of records of medications for each child. At the time of this writing, 76 medications are detailed in the database.
Background
The Calculator is based on the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) December 2010 Psychotropic Medication Utilization Parameters for Texas Foster Children.
It is a publically available resource for helping the DFPS Child Protective Services (CPS), the courts, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Volunteers and Programs, Attorneys representing the children, and Guardian Ad Litems ensure the proper use of psychotropic medications for the children in foster care.
