Keyword Understanding is a speech therapy app which targets auditory and reading comprehension of simple and more complex instructions. Keyword Understanding is designed to help children with reduced attention, auditory processing difficulties, receptive language disorder or autism as well as adults with aphasia and cognitive difficulties from stroke.

The exercises in the app are based on the comprehension of information-carrying words (ICWs). Information-carrying words are the words in a sentence that a child or adult needs to understand in order to follow an instruction.

Keyword Understanding offers a comprehension check (colors, size, objects) at the 1 information-carrying word (ICW) level and graded tasks of increasing difficulty (2, 3, 4 or 6 information-carrying words)

3 ICW Level: Touch the small green umbrella
4 ICW Level: Touch the yellow chair and the blue candle
6 ICW Level: Touch the big pink cupcake and the small green glasses

Keyword Understanding also includes Temporal Directions tasks which target the child or adult's ability to follow directions which include the words before/after in a variety of positions in the sentence.
