Whether you’re employed or unemployed, you need to keep an eye on what the job market is doing.
If you were to be laid off today, would you be relevant to what employers are looking for?
If you are unemployed, what are the chances of you getting a job based on your skill set?
The best way to do that is to browse the internet for jobs. Looking at what employers are currently looking for is the best indicator to what is marketable today. What employers are looking for in NY isn’t necessarily what employers are looking for in CA.
What do you do? My advice is do a job search.
Step 1: Do a job search
Step 2: Take the top most recent job posts
Step 3: Read all the job posts to keeping a tally of what employers are looking for
This tells you what employers want…. OR download this app.
In two minutes or less, this app will analyze all those posts for you and give you a list of where you should be spending your time.
For example:
Given a search criteria of "Java", you would read the Keyword results, sql-server [4 of 11] 36%, like this:
Based on your search criteria, "Java", the keyword "sql-server" shows up in 4 job posts out of 11. This is 36%.
Tapping the keyword brings you a list of job titles with that keyword in it.
Tapping the job title will bring you to that job.
If the list says you should be doing something other than what you do, there is a good chance you aren’t finding work and need some training to be marketable. If the list shows you a high percentage of what you do, you shouldn’t be out of work for long.
This app uses top TECH job search engines to determine what employers want in your area.
