Journey Recorder will help monitor the average speed you are traveling at. This is fun while running or making a bike-ride. However, it becomes really important when driving a car, as speed limit enforcement by measurement of the average speed on a given track by automatic number plate recognition systems is now implemented in several countries. This data is not available from the data systems in your car, but can be obtained from Journey Recorder that uses GPS data from your iPhone.

Journey Recorder keeps track of your whole trip, and allows you to create sections, so when you enter a part of the journey with a different maximum speed it will track the data over that section as well.

Recorded trips can be viewed form the trips log in a map view or in text format. From the text format view the recorded data can be exported in three different formats:
-plain text (a human readable flat file of the trip details)
-GPX (an XML format useful for other GPS systems)
-KML (the Google-Earth data format)
The data will be exported as an attachment to an e-mail message.

Since the use of GPS location information is taxing your battery-life considerably, it is recommended that your iPhone is plugged into a power source while using Journey Recorder. To indicate this, the text heading “Current Trip/Section” will change from green to red if the iPhone is unplugged.
