Application Description
DIRECTORY
joule Mobile provides a directory where users can browse or search for students, faculty or staff that are enrolled in the same courses as they are. The directory is also a convenient place to get quick access to important numbers like campus security, the library, etc.
From the initial consolidated list view, users can select a name to drill down and see extended information about the contact. From here, users can also send a friend request to that contact to connect with them through the Mobile Campus Network, send an e-mail, or add to their smartphone’s address book.
NEWS
Users can stay up-to-date with campus news through joule Mobile’s news feature, which streams publically available news from the school’s Web site via an RSS feed. Users that are logged into the app can also see personalized news that is only accessible to students, faculty or staff.
COURSES
The courses feature lists all courses in which the user is enrolled, organized by category.
From this consolidated list view, users can select a course to drill down and get more detailed information, including:
- Course description
- Faculty
- Session time
- Room
- Recent activity (populated from the course’s Recent Activity block)
- Roster
- Grades
The roster appears similar to the directory and allows users to send an e-mail to their classmates.
Grades are listed by activity, and instructors have the additional capability of getting more detail about the activity by selecting it. This opens the full course within joule in the operating system’s default mobile browser.
MAPS
Users can easily locate buildings on campus and find directions using Google Maps. joule Mobile’s maps feature shows specific campus locations for easier navigation as well as allows users to browse a list of the buildings on campus. For multi-campus institutions, users can also narrow their options by selecting the specific campus of interest.
EVENTS
joule Mobile synchronizes with the school’s joule calendar, allowing users to view public events within the app. Once logged into the app, users can also see personalized events that are only accessible to students, faculty or staff.
FRIENDS
By signing up with DUB, users can expand their profiles to include social networking links (i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn, FriendFeed, etc.), instant messenger, e-mail, phone, photo, address and other contact information.
Users can then exchange their information with other users to build a lifelong connection. As friends change their contact information, the user’s phone’s address book is automatically updated to ensure accuracy at all times.

Messages and alerts are sent to the app and the user can click them for details.
