Application Description
The Welsh Rugby Players’ Association has once again teamed up with the Ray Gravell and Friends Charitable Trust for the month of November for the 2012 Grow a Grav campaign.
The Grow a Grav campaign seeks to raise vital funds for the WRPA’s Benevolent Trust which aims to provide support to current and former professional rugby players in times of serious illness, injury or hardship, as well as raising funds for the Ray Gravell and Friends Charitable Trust, to provide assistance to charities that were close to Ray’s heart.
Ray Gravell was a true Welsh legend, who sadly died of a heart attack in October 2007, aged 56. A former Llanelli, Wales and British Lions rugby player, Grav played during one of the most successful periods in Welsh rugby's history, when he became known for his trademark beard and his powerful charges from midfield. His fame became even greater after he retired from playing in 1985 and embarked on an acting and broadcasting career which made him one of the best known faces and voices in Wales.
During the month of November, Grow a Grav is asking men to grow a beard in the style of late Gravell and support the campaign by donating to the trusts. Grav will not only be remembered for his achievements on and off the field but for his very distinguished beard. Grav was an inspiration to so many and a passionate Welshman and rugby advocate, this is therefore a very fitting campaign supported by the Welsh International rugby players.
