Application Description
The system helps to choose the best option among several offered.
Every person in one's life faces a lot of opportunities when one is supposed to make choice among a variety of options. Which phone or car to buy? Where to go on vacation? Which employee to hire? As usually as there are a lot of options is not an easy task. How to choose the best of all the options? To choose the cheapest one? Or the most qualitative one? Or the most powerful one?
For this one has to define main parameters due to which options will be compared. These can be anything – price, function, size, colour, prestige etc. As not all the parameters are important they can be given additional value. After that one shall estimate each of the options according to these parameters. By adding the estimates one can find out which option is the best one. That's all: the choice problem is solved. The field of use is unrestricted.
Main elements.
Choice – each certain choice of the best option among several. For example, a choice of a place of vacation this summer or an electronic device as a gift for friend the next week. Category – the way to combine similar choices. For example one can combine all the choices of rest places for weekend and vacation into one category “Rest” in order to find them easily next time.
Options – a list of objects among which one has to choose the best one.
Parameters – a list of parameters according to which options are chosen. Each parameter can be given additional value: which one is more important and which one is less. Estimate criteria is given to each parameter.
Сriterion “Screen size, inches” (numerical):
2 – 0 points, 3 – 70 points, 3.5 – 100 points
Criterion «Colour» (list-oriented):
«Black» - 100 points, «White» - 70 points, «Gray» - 0 points
Value of choice – value of each option in accordance with any criterion. For list-oriented meanings it’s a choice of one from all the offered. For instance, “Black” or “White”. For numerical meanings it may be any number. The final value of option is calculated based on the parameters value and is stated in points from 0 to 100.
Principle of operation
At first options for each new choice are to be created. Thereafter several parameters need to be created and raised their profile according to their importance. For each parameter several criteria and their value (in a range of 0-100) need to be set. They show what the “bad” (0 points), “good” (70 points), “perfect” (100) criteria is. The more detailed gradation is possible.
Then every option needs to be valued according to each parameter individually. For the list-oriented parameters only specific value from all the offered ones may be chosen. Value may be determined from it. For the numerical parameters any value may be set. If an exact match is found, the points will be taken from that value. If a number is between two values, the numerical score will be determined according to linear approximation principle. If indicated number is located beyond the limit of described values, the closest value will be taken.
For getting the final value of an option, all its values are to be added with a glance to importance of each parameter. The option that will get the highest possible value is of more preference for a given set of criterion.
One can share his choice with other users by sending it over e-mail.
