Heat Cost Calculator gives users a resource to better understand the financial impact of lowering or increasing the thermostat during cold months.  The information computed is unique to each user's home or building.  In addition, this is a great tool to demonstrate  the importance of the thermostat settings to family and colleagues.

This application assumes that the heat source is natural gas and that temperatures entered are constant for a day/month.  Actual results may vary based on the impact of non-thermostat related natural gas usage, i.e. water heater or other gas appliances. Variances in structure's resistance based on temperature and properties of the weather may impact results as well.  Taxes, delivery and other additional charges are not included in this approximation.  

Accuracy may be reduced if billing information is based on estimates from your gas company.

Tip: User can subtract out the warmest month's gas usage to get a more accurate heating estimate.
