The Foraging Companion is a feature-laden guide for common wild and naturalised edible plants of temperate North America.

### Introduction Price US $2.99 ###

You may have wondered about some wild plant

Can I eat this plant?
Which parts are edible?
Does it need any special treatment?
Is there something I ought to watch out for?

This app is one of the handiest reference guides on plant edibility. It is designed for quick access to all the essential information you need - no more wading through long text to find the short answer to those questions.

This guide packs a lot of information and features into a small space:

- list of 324 plants with basic essential information on edible parts, how to consume, and caution notes
- detailed profiles of 51 plants with guide to identification, culinary, medicinal and other uses - most are illustrated
- month by month list to availability and thumbnail gallery of those 51 featured plants
- stay safe with caution notes including warning features to look out for
- key information about botanical families
- a glossary of toxic substances
- a small herbal section with examples of wild plants, which may be used for home treatment or first aid in the wild
- general information on collecting and preparation, including a way to extract protein from grass and other leaves (indispensable for extreme survival situations)
- part lists - the edible parts from the 324 plants sorted into individual lists
- find plants by English or botanical name and cross-reference with other sources
- colour-coding and icons to help find the information you want quickly

The Foraging Companion was collated from many texts on supposed edible plants and cross-checked against herbal guides and other reference on potential harm where available. There are a number of plants long regarded as edible, which I would not consume, Comfrey and most of the Umbellifers to name a few. Why? Check out the details on Comfrey in particular and the Umbellifer family in general. Make an informed decision on what risk you'll take.

No guide can be complete or authoritative in all respects, and whilst the Foraging Companion includes some pointers on identification, remedies, and diverse other information, this should be seen as bonus material for getting you out of an emergency and for general guidance. The perfect foraging guide would have a complete list of features, full information on every plant, weigh in at hundreds or thousands of MB and probably not exist.

What this app is NOT -
- a field guide - always use a reputable field guide for identification
- a herbal - the remedies in the guide are for minor ailments or to help in a survival situation and are not intended to replace expert advice or treatment
- a cook book - most wild plants can be used in the same way that their cultivated cousins are used - this app includes general notes and guidance on when a plant needs special treatment

It DOES give easy to find information to help you answer the question "Can I eat that plant?" for 324 wild and naturalised plants.
