Schmecks, the book she wrote about her experiences, was originally published in 1968 and instantly became a classic, selling tens of thousands of copies. Included are Staebler’s stories and anecdotes about cooking, Mennonites, her family, and Waterloo Region—including the story of The Great Cookie War between Nabisco and Procter and Gamble about the now-famous Rigglevake cookies.
