The information about trees in the Find Fruit app is provided by Neighborhood Fruit, an online service that helps people find and share fruit in their communities. Neighborhood Fruit aggregates public tree information from a variety of channels: from non-profit partners to Neighborhood Fruit users. If you know of a fruit tree on public land, you can register it at http://neighborhoodfruit.com/node/add/public-tree.

Neighborhood Fruit also facilitates fruit sharing within communities. Fruit tree owners who are faced with the seasonal dilemma of what to do with their surplus bounty can find folks to share with. Fruitless folks can source local fruit. Everyone wins with Neighborhood Fruit!

Neighborhood Fruit was created to make use of the abundant fruit growing in our urban neighborhoods. Currently, the bulk of fruit grown in backyards in our cities goes to waste, while the fruit we consume is grown in water-intensive orchards far from our homes. We envision a different future, where the food grown in our communities is eaten in our communities and neighbors share with one another. Join us in creating a future where the food we eat is truly fresh, seasonal and local!
