EyeWorks is a friendly exploration of how the Eye works to create our amazing sense of vision. Extensive use of photos and diagrams helps visualize the structures in detail and explain how they function.
In addition to the normal structure and function of the Eye there are also descriptions of the most common eye conditions, including cataract, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
The last section includes subjects of special interest, for example, how to find your blindspot, what does a lens implant look like, and progress on development of the artificial retina.
EyeWorks can be read as a book, used as an aid for teaching in the classroom, or set up in a waiting room for patient education.

Contents

1.Parts of the Eye. A section on each of the individual structures of the eye, from Cornea to Retina, explaining structure and function. Diagrams and photos show details from microscopic to full size.
2.Focusing. How the Cornea, Iris and Lens act together to focus light, forming a sharp image on the Retina.
3.Image Creation. How the Retina, with its Rods and Cones, senses light and generates nerve impulses which are carried by the Optic Nerve back to the Brain. The Brain assembles those nerve impulses in stages into a completed image.
4.Vision and Optics. The meaning of the common terms, 20/20, near-sighted, far-sighted and presbyopia, and how glasses correct for them.
5.Tear System. The tear film on the surface of the eye is surprisingly important for good vision, comfort and corneal health. This covers the production and drainage of tears and Dry Eye.
6.Motility. There are three sets of muscles that move each eye to maintain precise alignment of both eyes at any angle of gaze. This section shows the muscles and how they work.
7.Common Conditions. Pictures and descriptions of Cataract, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy.
8.Special Subjects. These are set off in a separate section because they are interesting on their own. Eye Dimensions. Vision in the Dark. Find your Blindspot. Vitamin A and the Eye. Lens Implants. Progress on the Artificial Retina. Color Blindness.
