Exploriments: Linear Motion - Distance and Displacement
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
This Exploriments Motion App lets you explore the difference between distance and displacement through the use of motion graphs and trails. The app consists of a series of interactive activities including interpretation of motion graphs & trails, calculating distance from displacement and constructing distance-time & displacement-time graphs. Each activity includes exercises that can be repeated many times with varying scenarios.
The Exploriments Series of interactive simulation-based tools makes conceptual learning in science an engaging and insightful experience. Visit www.exploriments.com to know more.
Activities Included:
Comparing Distance and Displacement
--- Introduce concept of Displacement as a vector quantity
--- Compare displacement with distance through motion trails and graphs
Introduction to Negative Displacement
--- Highlight that displacement can be negative as compared to distance
--- How negative displacement is represented on motion graphs
Constructing Distance and Displacement Motion Graphs
--- Construct Distance-Time and Displacement-Time graphs, based on motion trails
Interpreting Displacement Motion Graph
--- Construct Displacement-Time graph based on a Distance-Time graph
Additional Features:
--- Generation of real-time motion graphs synched with trails of the moving object
--- Construct motion graphs interactively
