dREaM Alarm is an intelligent alarm clock that wakes the user with the memory of their dreams. It uses the iPhone accelerometer to detect when the user has fallen asleep, and wakes them in the rapid eye movement (REM) phase of sleep - the time in which dreams occur.

Studies show that when a sleeper in a research laboratory is woken from REM sleep, they report vivid, story-like dreaming 95% of the time. If a sleeper is awakened outside of REM, it is rare for them to be able to recollect the dream.

For the first time ever, an alarm has been designed with the primary aim of waking the sleeper at the point in which they are most likely to remember their dreams.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When an alarm is set, the iPhone's accelerometer measures the movement of the sleeper to determine when they fall asleep. dREaM Alarm then calculates how many sleep cycles will be completed before the specified alarm time. When the sleeper enters the REM phase of their final sleep cycle, the alarm will sound. Being woken in REM sleep increases the likelihood of the sleeper recalling their dream.
