Suppose one morning you wake up and you feel sick. You decide to visit your physician. He asks you several questions and concludes from your answers what ailment you have. Suppose he concludes your ailment will go away within a few days and you don't need any special treatment and/or pills. In retrospect your visit to your physician was not necessary.

Suppose one morning you wake up and you feel sick. You decide NOT to visit your physician and go to work. Later that day your sickness becomes worse and you decide to visit your physician. Now this physician concludes you have a severe ailment and sends you to the hospital. In retrospect your decision not to visit your physician was wrong.

Of course, you're not a physician and you cannot conclude from the symptoms whether or not your are sick, i.e. really sick. But you can't pay a visit to your physician just for any complaint you have (the first case above). Not being a physician, this might be a wrong conclusion (the second case above).

When you visit your physician he poses you several questions. The medical term for this is 'triage', a set of questions and follow-up questions to diagnose your ailment. Suppose you would know these questions and follow-up questions beforehand. In such a case you could do a first diagnosis yourself and based on the result you go to your physician or not. If done correctly, you wouldn't visit your physician (again, the first case above) or go to him immediately (the second case above).

Meet Dokter Marcel.

Dokter Marcel contains a 'triage' for several common medical complaints. By answering questions and follow-up questions, you can make a first diagnosis before actually visiting your physician.

The app has two formats to present questions. Each format has it own tab. The first format shows questions, answers and conclusion in a new menu. You go back to the previous menu using a Back button. The second format shows all questions and answers in the same menu by expanding or collapsing the menu.

Questions and answers lead to a conclusion. You can mail your results to others, f.i. your doctor. If a conclusion is shown and you select this conclusion, a Mail button appears. Pressing this button will open the Mail app. Your results are in the Conclusion.txt attached to the mail.

The content of this app was made by a real physician. However, it must be clear that the app is not intended as a substitute for a real physician.
