DataSpaceTime Scanner is a QR CODE scanning app designed exclusively for multimedia installations by DataSpaceTime, a project by Brooklyn based artists Lisa Gwilliam and Ray Sweeten.

Viewers scan prints in DataSpaceTime installations to gather additional data. The application keeps track of which codes you've scanned, when and where you were at the time. The DataSpaceTime Scanner currently works with prints from the Data Portraits and Walls Can Talk Series.

Data Portraits explores the relationship between the representational image, public data, and a viewer's consumption of specific images. The project presents images as software, data repositories, tracking devices, and frames the evolution (deterioration) of the viewer's engagement with an image and what it has come to symbolize. While the images we use are often political in nature, the primary objective is not to make a political statement per se (though sometimes we can't resist), but by using contentious images we hope to further underline the tension between the image perceived in the foreground and the data one excavates from the background.

Walls Can Talk plays off the age old adage "If walls could talk". 10,000 of the least frequently used 5-word fragments have been collected from the N-grams data set. Additional collaborators for Walls Can Talk include Jean-Baptiste Michel, Director of the Cultural Observatory at Harvard.
