India’s first Tiger Reserve, Corbett National Park has a long history of conservation. Covering about 521 sq kms of area the park lies in two districts namely, Nainital and Pauri of the beautiful state of Uttarakhand. Offering diverse landscape and wildlife, Corbett has become a popular haunt for avid wildlife lovers.

Wildlife
Corbett’s diverse landscape shelters several species of mammals and birds along with few species of reptiles and herpetofauna (King Cobra, Indian Cobra and Indian Rock Pythons) as well. Sambar, Kakar or the Barking Deer, Chital, Asiatic Jackal, Wild Boar, Eurasian Otter, Himalayan Ghural, Hanuman Langur, Rhesus Macaque, Leopard, Hog Deer, Asian Elephant, Gharial (Alligator), Crocodile and fishes like Mahaseer, Indian Trout, Goonch and Rohu are the prominent inhabitants of the Corbett National Park. There are more than 600 species of birds of which many are migratory and endangered species. For obvious reasons, Tiger is the major attraction of the park.
Flora
A blessing in disguise for naturalists and nature lover, Corbett is adorned with about 600 species of trees and plants. Amongst the most prominent are Sal, Khair, Chir Pine and Sisoo. Lending colour and adding beauty to the park, the flowering plants play their part sincerely. The pink and white Kachnar, the big red Semal, the bright orange Dhak, bright red Madaar and bright yellow chandelier-like Amaltas. There are some parts in Corbett that are largely dominated by Bamboo, what attracts the visitors here is the peculiar flowering process, where all the trees flower together and die together. The flowering takes place once in a decade. A large variety of herbs, shrubs and non-flowering plants in the park also appeals the visitors.
Safari and Safari Zones
Corbett offers three safari options namely, Jeep Safari, Canter Safari and Elephant Safari. Jhirna, Dhikala, Bijrani and Durga Devi are the four safari zones in Corbett National. One can enjoy jeep rides in Jhirna, Durga Devi and Bijrani zones and canter ride is only available in Dikhala zone. For those, who want to add an extra edge to their expedition, elephant safari is a good option for them. There are two safaris scheduled in a day, one in the morning between 6 am and 10 am and the other in the afternoon between 2 pm and 6 pm.
Places to See Around Corbett
Corbett is blessed with picturesque surroundings that offer tourists a pleasant time exploring it. Located 45 minutes away from Corbett is Tumeria Dam, which is a major attraction for bird watchers and nature lovers. Garjia is another scenic location, which is situated 3 kms from Corbett National Park. A fine-looking Durga temple is perched upon a huge rock here that evidently attracts lots of devotees. The residence of conservationist Jim Corbett in Kaladhungi (32 kms from Ramnagar), which has now been converted into a museum is another popular tourist attraction around Corbett region. A beautiful waterfall called Corbett Fall is situated at a short distance from the park is a great picnic destination.
