Application Description
Color Buddy was created to assist in the development of children’s reasoning and motor skills through fun and entertaining coloring activities. Through the development stage, children start to hold a pen to paper as early as age 1. Color Buddy will give the child a sense of achievement, as well as help to develop self control, focus, discipline, and motor dexterity. The end result is the child will have achieved a higher level of confidence, independence and motor skills though a fun and effective activity. At the completion of each drawing, Color Buddy will check, score and save the results, and maintain those scores in the program’s memory. Completed drawings can be saved to your camera roll and shared through Facebook.
Level 1
In this level, the selected picture will have predefined colors and the child will need to color a pre-set percentage of the shape for Color Buddy to automatically fill the shape with color. The child’s guardian will be able to choose the percentage of the drawing the child will need to complete in order for the automatic color-fill to complete the drawing. This pre-set percentage allows Color Buddy to accompany the child’s skills as they develop to be able to move to the next level. Throughout this level, the software will automatically clip the coloring to the border line limit of the picture. The primary goal of this level is to give the child a sense of achievement and create the motivation to move to the next level.
Level 2
Building on the skills developed in level 1, the child now selects the color to fill the shape. The child’s guardian will be able to choose the percentage of the drawing the child will need to complete in order for the automatic color-fill to complete the drawing. This pre-set percentage allows Color Buddy to accompany the child’s skills as they develop to be able to move to the next level. Throughout this level, the software will automatically clip the coloring to the border line limit of the picture. This level helps the child to recognize, identify, and apply the right colors to the picture.
Level 3
In this level, the child must color the picture manually; Color Buddy will not in the border line limit of the picture, therefore assisting the child to focus and develop self control.
Level 4
Color Buddy will provide dotted lines for the child to trace the outline of the picture. The child’s guardian will be able to choose the acceptable distance between the provided dotted lines to the child’ outline for Color Buddy to automatically complete the shape. This level develops the child’s ability to create lines and shapes and continue to develop the discipline for self control while expanding the motor dexterity.
Level 5
Once all the previous levels are mastered, the child is introduced to a “free draw level”. The child may draw and color anything and the drawing can be saved and shared. The end result is the child achieved a higher level of confidence, independence and motor skills though a fun and effective activity.

In addition to the development functions, Color Buddy can be used for rehabilitation therapy subsequent to a stroke or other conditions that may require the redevelopment of fine motor skills and functions.
