civico 103 is a magazine that starts out in life announcing and publicising the initiatives of the Galleria civica di Modena, or of giving a retrospective account of them, documenting all that the nature of which is not featured in further-reaching publications such as catalogues or monographs. Designed to be issued quarterly, it is able to adapt with ease to the contractions and dilations of time, with a view to its key aim of being functional to the Gallery’s activities.
The contributions, the ideas, forms and contents will therefore provides mainly from within the museum itself and its in-house staff, and showcases the results of our everyday work.

One of the city’s key public institutions since 1959, over the last 50 years the Galleria civica di Modena has become one of the most authoritative cultural centres on the national contemporary arts scene. In its two venues, Palazzo Santa Margherita and Palazzina dei Giardini, holds temporary exhibitions dedicated to contemporary art and photography, offering ongoing teaching services aimed at a range of different age groups, and organises a number of other activities such as meetings, conferences, and other events to do with the diffusion and exploration of contemporary artistic languages.
Furthermore, it also houses, adds to and valorises two important permanent collections: the Collection of Drawing which consists of over 4,000 sheets belonging largely to 20th-century Italian artists and the Collection of Photography, featuring over 3,500 photographs by many of the main contemporary photographers from around the world.
