Sunriver, Oregon -- outdoor activity playground in summer and in winter. Renowned for beautiful blue skies, great weather, traffic circles, and 30+ miles of bike paths. For those who venture out onto those paths, the questions quickly become: where am I? and how do I get to the pool/lodge/store/coffee shop?

Circle 8 for iPhone and iPad answers these questions by providing you with a detailed map (standard or satellite) of the Sunriver area including attractions, bike paths, and your current location. Search for your destination, peruse the endless array of bike paths, find your current location inside (or outside) Sunriver, and plan your ride or walk. You can even email Circle 8 support directly from the app with questions or feedback.

I have to say that the satellite map of Sunriver is really cool (even for us locals) because it gives you a real world view of what is where. Like Lake Penhollow -- how many times have you driven past it on Cottonwood and didn't realize what it actually looked like from the sky, especially on an iPad with retina display?

And how about those traffic circles? I think it's cool to turn off everything except the circles so I can show people exactly where Circle 8 was supposed to be!

Note that the bike paths displayed in the app were created using GPS traces. Consequently, they should not be expected to be as accurate as properly surveyed maps. But they'll certainly do the job for finding your way around Sunriver.

VERY IMPORTANT POINT: When the app starts the first time, it will ask to be able to use your current location. If you want to have your current location displayed in the map (isn't that why you bought Circle 8 in the first place?), I strongly recommend you tap "OK." If you tap "Don't Allow" (or if you do not have Location Services enabled), your current position will not be displayed properly. This will be highlighted within the app in the next version.

Since we are unable to respond to user reviews, let me discuss a few finer points about the Circle 8 app:
* The app does not provide routing on bike paths or on streets. You cannot use Circle 8 to get turn-by-turn directions from one location to another.
* Circle 8 does not allow you to search by address because the geocoded address data in the Sunriver is not reliable enough at this time.
* You can contact support if you have questions either from the link on the Circle 8 page in the App Store or directly from the app.
