If you want to get the most out of Charlottesville, then you need Charlottesville Artfinder! Created in conjunction with Piedmont Council for the Arts (PCA), Charlottesville Artfinder's purpose is to improve the accessibility to the arts in Charlottesville. The "Map" section allows users to see all of the art venues in Charlottesville on an interactive map. Plotted with custom, category-specific markers, these venues are directly linked to the "Directory" section, which lists all of the art venues in Charlottesville in a sorted table. Clicking on a venue's table entry launches a venue page that includes important information and allows the user to get walking or driving directions from their current location. In addition, users can choose to see the venue on the map or launch a phone call to the venue. The "Transportation" section allows users to get directions to the major parking areas around downtown Charlottesville and informs users about the area's public transportation. The "Events" section loads in a table with headers for the next 30 days, under which are event entries that are color-coded by category, and is essentially a mobile representation of PCA's online calendar. Clicking on an event launches an event page with important information about the event and a button that allows users to add/remove the event from their iPhone's native calendar app. Finally, the "Social" section allows users to log in with their Facebook account in order to view a public livestream generated exclusively by fellow app users. The stream brings the arts of Charlottesville to life, highlighting the most recent events and allowing users to share their experiences with each other. This app was developed by HooApps, a student-run club at the University of Virginia, within the context of the Tom Tom's Tomtoberfest "Apps That Matter" competition, which was sponsored by WillowTree Apps. PCA manages the data that populates this app. Finally, the tab bar icons were provided for free by icons8 (http://www.icons8.com) under a license called Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported.
