This intuitive app allows you to determine your BMI and your BMI Prime percentage based on your height and weight. You can enter either Metric (kg & m) or English Units (lbs.. & inches) to display your estimated BMI and BMI Prime Percentage. The Body Mass Index (BMI) was originally called the Quetelet Index developed by Adolphe Quetelet in the mid 19th Century. The term BMI was popularized by Ancel Keys in the July 1972 edition of the Journal of Chronic Diseases. The BMI is used in several contexts and is commonly used to determine how much an individual's weight varies from defined optimal limits. Defined limits include:

BMI less than 18.5 is considered underweight.

BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered optimal.

BMI greater or equal to 25 is considered overweight.

BMI greater or equal to 30 suggests obesity.

A variant of BMI is known as "BMI Prime" and indicates the ratio of body weight as compared to the upper limit of body weight. The BMI prime is calculated by dividing the BMI by a value of 25. BMI defined limits include:

BMI Prime under 0.74 is considered underweight.

BMI Prime of 0.74 to 1.00 is considered optimal.

BMI Prime more than 1.00 is considered over weight.

BMI Prime allows users to quickly identify what percentage their weight varies from their upper weight limit. For example, a persons with a BMI of 35 divided by 25 equals 1.40. This, a weight that is 40% over the upper mass limit.
