BIRD SCHOLAR provides a highly structured environment for learning common bird songs.

UPDATE: Our users have reported two unexpected applications for Bird Scholar. The portable app can be used to attract birds in their natural environments. And, the app is a particularly powerful tool for teaching bird songs to young children, which we believe is related to a child's exceptional ability to learn human languages.

The Eastern US Edition focuses on birds that are commonly encountered in the Eastern United States. Images and sound files are entirely self-contained.

Users may find some birds of interest missing from the current library. The number of birds has been restricted to minimize the size of the application and to ensure portability. Additional birds can be found in the Midwest and Western US Editions.

Three page views allow the user to inspect the library of bird songs, learn songs through multiple choice interactions, and test the accuracy of identification by listening to randomly selected songs.

Content was generously provided for non-commercial educational and research purposes by the Macaulay Library of The Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
