Jeju Island is located at the southernmost tip of South Korea.
In the past, it was an island with too many rocks and winds making it difficult for people to cultivate any farmlands. It was also very far away from the mainland and people lived a very isolated life here.
However, this isolation lead to a development in Jeju's unique culture and language unlike any other language used in the mainland. It was also the catalysis for preserving its beautiful nature.
UNESCO consequently designated Jeju as World Natural Heritage and World Geopark, impressed with the excellent quality of Jeju's nature. It was also chosen later as one of the destinations in the New 7 Natural Wonders of Nature.
