The Algebra Classroom Response for Students is a student assessment system similar to other "clicker" or class response systems. However, this is for iPad and does not require Internet access. It does require a wireless network of some kind, however, to communicate between the teacher app and the student apps. Some schools don't allow student access to the Internet, so this app is created to allow for iPad based assessment without the Internet.

The companion teacher app is available from the Center for Algebraic Thinking (algebraicthinking.org) for free and can be used on PC or Mac, as it is browser based. Together they allow the teacher to create assessments with mathematical symbols and multiple styles of problems (including text input) and deliver them to students' iPads. One thing that is unique about this app is that teachers can access the Formative Assessment Database of the Center for Algebraic Thinking to use research based problems AND/OR simply design their own problems. The app also provides immediate graphical information about how students do on multiple choice and other fixed choice problems. It also provides an easy to read presentation of students constructed response items.

This student app is easy to use and immediately connects to the teacher's assessment.

Instructions for using the student and teacher apps are available at the Center for Algebraic Thinking (algebraicthinking.org/tech). You will need to download the latest version of Adobe Air to operate the app.
