aDealNearU is a one-of-a-kind tool that brings together 2 key technologies - the iPhone, including the 3.0 Map Kit feature, and twitter - for the benefit of many users.
aDealNearYou is a no-frills, two-part application - one part relates to sharing a deal and the other relates to searching deals that were previously shared. It does this by using a back-end twitter engine and "shares" the deals as "tweets". Conversely, it searches for deals by searching "tweets".
As a basic premise, this app assumes that people are willing to share more than "what they are currently doing", with other users; that they are also willing to share a deal they got and provide the price, location (a gas station, grocery store, department store, a web address, etc) and related information of the deal and help others save money.
By including a user's geographic location (latitude & longitude) among other information in "tweets" as key/value pairs, the app is able to publish per-tweet location information. It is therefore able to parse the search results and get the location information of a "tweet". It presents these results in a user-friendly format on a map using the iPhone 3.0 Maps Kit.
It make judicious use of the #hashtags concept of twitter, behind the scenes, as a filtering mechanism. It also uses the "source:<appname>" concept to tag and easily identify tweets from this app. It provides the user the option of limiting search results to tweets from this app, as opposed to any twitter update, by filtering the results using "source:" parameter.
A simple, easy-to-use and intuitive GUI, hides the twitter engine and other twitter details above from users.
The GUI let's the users sort the deal results on different criteria (name, price, distance & time) as well as provides an interface to the iPhone Maps application if a user needs to get directions to a deal's location.
This app does not rely on any public or other databases to get its information. It is based solely on user contribution - that is based purely on tweets from users. So naturally, the more people use this app to share the deals, the more useful the search becomes.

All of the five deal types have very similar look and feel and present a very easy to use GUI.
1. Item description:
For "Search" operations, the user selects the type of item they are sharing/selecting or in some cases provides a very brief search term describing the item they are looking for.
For "Share" operations, the "Item Description" text needs to be filled, if one exists.
2. Item Location:
For "Search" operations, this portion is used to determine the center of the search.
For "Share" operations, this is used to specify the location of the deal. A descriptive text identifying the location is required when performing "Share".
3. Deal Information
For "Search" operations, the "comments" field is optional and is used to construct the search keywords. The location name, price and expiry fields are not used.
For "Share" operations, the location name and price fields are required and the user will be prompted to enter them if they are empty. The expiry and comments field are optional.
4. Search and Share buttons
If the "Search" was successful (at least one valid result was returned), a "Deal Results" view is presented. Otherwise, an error message is presented.
