STORIES OVERVIEW:
Journey to the West is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. It is a mythological novel based on many centuries of popular tradition. Journey to the West 4 is the story collection of Journey to the West with Pictures series. There are five stories: The Three Taoists, TongTian River, Unicorn Demon, Two Monkey Kings, and The Palm-Leaf Fan.
★The Three Taoists: In the spring, Tang Seng and his disciples arrived in a country called Chechi. They contest with three demons to pray for rain, sit in silent meditation without moving, behead, chop up and fry. Tang Seng and his disciples won the contest and exposed demons identities.
★TongTian River: Tang Seng and his disciples were blocked by Tong Tian River. When they went across the river, the Carp Demon caught Tang Seng. With the help of Guanyin, they defeated the demon and rescued Tang Seng.
★Unicorn Demon: When they reached JinDou Hill, Tang Seng, BaJie and Sha Seng were captured by the Unicorn Demon. Wu Kong used many ways to fight with him, but couldn’t defeat him. It turned out to be Taishang Senior’s black ox and it changed back to ox after looking at Taishang Senior.
★Two Monkey Kings: Tang Seng was unsatisfied with Wu Kong for he had killed people easily. Wu Kong was angry and left Tang Seng, going back to Guanyin’s. A fake Monkey King showed up, beat down Tang Seng and left with the packages. Everyone couldn’t tell who the real Monkey King was. The head Buddha took out a Goledn Bowl and the fake Monkey King was restored to its true form. Tang Seng forgave Wu Kong and continued their journey.
★The Palm-Leaf Fan: Flame Mountain blocked their way to the West. Wu Kong was very confident that Princess Iron Fan would lend her Palm-leaf Fan to him. But after Guanyin recruited the Red Boy, Princess Iron Fan hated Wu Kong very much and reluctant to lend him. After trying many approaches, they finally got the fan and went through the mountain.
