The story tells about a young fairy called Starlight and her fear that the village children were becoming unhappy. She felt the village people had changed and this was causing the children to be unhappy. She didn't know why the people had changed. The elves, leprechauns, mermaids and unicorns were the people's helpers and they did most of the work. The good fairies taught their children. The village people really had very little to do. Starlight, confused, asked her leader for help. He told her and the other teachers and helpers that the people were relying on them too much. He then asked Starlight to conduct a test. She was to find out if the people were really mean, selfish and lazy or kind, generous and hardworking. When the tests were over there was a big change in the village and to this day a new destiny for Starlight.


Many of the pages have an optional “Paint Me” feature for children to finger paint the pages and create their own custom version of the book.
