The Annual Ottawa Conference, hosted by the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, is the only conference of its kind in Canada and has become a recognized national reference point for health professionals seeking knowledge in clinical smoking cessation - an important area of preventative health practice. The Ottawa Conference brings together national and international experts to share the latest concepts in clinical tobacco treatment, program development, and smoking cessation research. Topics include: tobacco control strategies, the neurobiology of nicotine addiction, the efficacy of various smoking cessation treatment approaches, health and economic impacts of tobacco addiction, and treatment strategies in specialized clinical settings and populations.

Accreditation Information

The Ottawa Conference meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been accredited for up to 12 MAINPRO-M1 credits. It is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for up to 12 credits. Through an agreement with the U.S. Accreditation for Continuing Medical Education, it is accredited for 12 hours of Category 1 credits of the American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award. The 2012 Ottawa Conference has been assigned 11.25 CEUs by the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
