When I was converted I began using the evangelistic methods of an evangelistic organization. Knowing no better I thought this was the best way to proclaim the gospel. Ten minutes going through a booklet and then 30 minutes of apologetics. Over four years I saw twenty people "pray to receive Christ". I do not believe a single one was genuinely converted. The evangelistic organization's founder believed that most people did not need to know WHY they needed to become a Christian, but rather HOW to become a Christian. He believed that if people only knew how must God loved them and what Christ had done for them people would almost certainly become Christians. When I discovered what the Bible actually taught about human nature and methods of evangelism I changed my approach. I found apologetics almost unnecessary. People were offended, even threatened violence, as they had with the apostles. I found this approach to be the one God had blessed down through the ages, until some people looked for a quick fix, diluted gospel to bring in large numbers of people into churches, but without genuine repentance and faith. It has been heart-warming to read Dr Johnston's gospel presentation and found someone who made the same discovery about the gospel as I had. I can heartily commend his presentation and pray that God will bless its use abundantly.
