Application Description
The PKard® Reader secure browser app supports military grade secure access to government or enterprise secure web sites with a user’s smart card ID and a licensed iPad/iPhone smart card reader accessory.
Web email, portal and collaboration site access are supported, including Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) and Microsoft SharePoint, for example, U.S. Military AKO, NKO and AF Portal sites.
The connection is fully encrypted and secure. Strong two-factor smart card authentication (chip card and PIN) is much safer than using passwords and is required for many secure sites.

PKard Reader supports industry and U.S. government standards including ISO 7816, NIST IR 6887, HSPD-12, OMB-11-11, FIPS 140-2 and FIPS 201 (with an approved reader).
Most popular smart card types are supported including CAC (Common Access Card), PIV (Personal Identity Verification), PIV-I and CIV (Commercial Identity Verification). Please contact us directly if you have an additional card type that you would like us to support.
The PKard Reader app license is bundled at no additional cost with licensed card readers.

TECHNICAL NOTES
• Full support for HTML 5 and JavaScript (not the same as Java) web standards for cross platform secure web access
• Documents can be opened with apps for editing, printing and sharing. This is just as for regular PC, Mac or Linux netbooks, laptops or desktops with smart card support.
• Performance is broadly dependent on Wi-Fi or cell bandwidth, Internet “weather”, back-end cloud or server locations, their responsiveness and/or load balancing
• Apple's iOS iPad/iPhone operating system *does not * support Adobe’s Flash, Microsoft’s ActiveX or Oracle’s Java (not the same as JavaScript)
• Please note that Thursby apps may not function correctly and are not supported on “jail broken” devices for security reasons
• A royalty free and high-level SDK for third party secure app development and secure enterprise policy management is available from Thursby that is multi card, multi reader, multi app, FIPS 140-2 validated and interoperable with the largest ecosystem of secure iPad/iPhone solutions in the world, avoiding the delays, risks and costs of niche, legacy, low-level, hard-coding to specific cards, readers or isolated single apps.
