Application Description
¡OYE! is a bilingual, annual publication for Catholic Hispanic youth in the U.S. Our mission is to foster leadership development and an awareness of life vocations; our content focuses on motivating with examples of family, faith, culture, service, leadership, ministry, and vocation. Our objective is to empower the young adults to think beyond their often limited resources and challenging circumstances, and to invite them to serve and to lead.
¡OYE! provides distinctive, first-person articles and points for reflection throughout each issue that respect and address the challenges faced by Hispanic youth—as well as articles focusing on the realities behind and the successes of the choices young Hispanics make.
Hispanics are quickly becoming a majority in the U.S. Catholic Church—their faith, culture, language, and traditions are informing the Catholic Church in this country. Hispanics are in nearly every diocese and are the majority of Catholics under the age of 30. These changing demographics pose new challenges for the Church, including the need to expand Hispanic ministry and to develop young Latino leaders in all areas of life.
The Hispanic Ministry Resource Center (HMRC) of Claretian Publications has been addressing these needs through ¡OYE! for over a decade. The future of our Church will be fundamentally determined by our ability to form current and future leaders, both religious and lay, from today’s Hispanic youth. By supporting Hispanic youth we are strengthening the Catholic Church in the United States.
With ¡OYE!’s national reach firmly established, HMRC is now in a new phase of development by establishing partnerships with universities and colleges, Hispanic organizations, and national leaders, in addition to expanding existing collaborations with bishops and dioceses throughout the U.S.
¡OYE! is distributed at no cost to youth groups, dioceses, parishes, and campus ministries, and is much more than a printed resource. Through our web and social media presence, we engage young Hispanics on a national level.
