Application Description
NZ Geodesy turns your iPhone into a true NZ customized handheld GPS!!
Imagine that you are in the middle of nowhere and mobile network is not available. Then you are completely lost.
Don't worry, here is the solution!! Bring your trustworthy local maps and let your iPhone GPS work. However, the iPhone GPS returns WGS84 coordinates which are meaningless on New Zealand map grid unless they are converted into a proper format. This application converts GPS information on the fly. This is very handy for trampers, travelers, emergency people..etc.
• supports NZGD1949 and New Zealand Map Grid which is old but still widely used.
• supports NZGD2000 and New Zealand Transverse Mercator projection which is new and official.
• supports WGS84 and UTM projection for international use.
• supports heading and speed.
NZMG and NZTM projection work within New Zealand only. However, anyone in the world could use WGS84 and UTM projection.
Note:
You may get "Out of Range" coordinates on NZGD1949 and NZGD2000 datum if you are not in New Zealand. This is completely normal, and ideal ranges are latitude from 30 S to 50 S, longitude from 165 E to 180 E.
In order to get heading and speed, you have to keep moving.
