Application Description
News-2-You is the Special Education’s Newspaper for beginning readers and special needs students. Every US school week, students can connect with the world through concise symbol-supported news articles, puzzles, games and recipes. The news stories provide stimulating information on reader-friendly topics. News-2-You is the only app available in the United States offering a national symbol-based newspaper.
The newspaper is designed for teaching and expanding literacy skills, from basic awareness of symbols and print to reading fluently with comprehension. This app spurs learning and increases communication, while aligning to Reading and Speaking and Listening Standards.
Each edition includes:
- Current Events
- Vocabulary
- Recipe
- Joke
- Sports News
- A variety of interactive games and puzzles for some fun while learning.
The News-2-You app, created by AssistiveWare and N2Y, can read the news using natural sounding Text to Speech voices, providing word and sentence highlighting. American male, female, boy and girl voices as well as many specialty voices are available as a free download.
The News-2-You app can be used with multiple students. Each student can get their own settings. Reading progress and answers to the exercises are tracked per student. Students can be locked into a specific edition or chapter or freely navigate all the downloaded editions.
Weekly editions are published during the US school year in the period September to May. Please note that there are no regular weekly edition during June, July and August.
The app includes one free sample edition. Weekly editions can be purchased inside the app for US$1.99* each.
An annual subscription is available as an in-app purchase for US$49.99*. Payment will be charged to your iTunes Account at confirmation of the purchase. This in-app annual subscription will automatically renew each year, unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period, and your credit card will be charged through your iTunes account. You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renew at any time from your iTunes account settings. No cancellation of the current subscription is possible during the active subscription period.
Existing News-2-You subscribers can access the editions by connecting to their N2Y account.
News-2-You is iPad-only and runs without requiring a WiFi or 3G connectivity. An active Internet connection is only needed to download new editions.
