Imagine a book that will not only read a story in both Mandarin (Putonghua) and Cantonese. It will also synchronize the reading with text highlighting. In addition, it will pronounce each character and phrase in the book to you whenever you want. That would surely make the task of understanding how to read Chinese very much easier.

Imagine the same book will also show you how to write every character in the proper Stroke Order. That would surely make the task of learning how to write Chinese a lot easier.

Imagine further that in addition to showing you how to read and write, the book can also test you to see how good your listening and writing are.

The boy who cried wolf, one of the many books in EON eLearning Series, is just such a book. If you just want to enjoy the story, just set "Auto Flip" on in Setting and it will read the book to the end upon your command. Touch any character/phrase in the book and it will pronounce that character for you. Touch the character again in the annotation and it will show you how to write the character.

We have just introduce the Listening Test into the series. The test is based on the Leitner system consisting of 5 baskets. All characters and phrases will be in the first basket initially and if you get the listening correct, the character or phrase will be dropped into the next basket. Get it wrong and it get moved to the previous basket.

The test will be expanded in future releases to test other aspects such as meanings and phonetics.


Chinese may look like a difficult language to master. However, you can get a good understanding of the language after learning 100+ Chinese characters. It is a good first step to know how to pronounce a character and its associated meaning. Learning how to write a character in the proper Stroke Order will help you tremendously in remembering the character. EON eLearning Series aims to teach you both Mandarin (Putonghua) and Cantonese through simple story. It will read out the story in Mandarin and Cantonese with the reading synchronize to text highlighting. You can also tap on any phrase or character in the book to see how that is pronounced individually. In addition, it will provide you the meaning in English to help you understand the phrase/character better. You can see how the character is written using the correct Stroke Order by tapping on the phrase in the annotation. In addition, you can write out the character for yourself or even test yourself to see if you know how to write the character correctly. This book contains both Traditional and Simplified Chinese. It contains only 102 unique Chinese characters and that is already sufficient to tell the story. After going through the book, you should have a good understanding of how each of the 102 characters as to
- How they are pronounced in Mandarin and Cantonese.
- How to write them.
- The meaning of each character.
- The meaning of the phrases they appeared in.
At 20 characters a day, it will take less than a week to learn them. That’s not too difficult a task.
