BodyTalk is an educational and decision support tool that is intended to educate young women about genetic risk factors for breast and ovarian cancers. It helps young women assess their risk for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic mutations based on their family history. For each assessment, BodyTalk will create a risk profile that young women are strongly encouraged to discuss with their doctor. BodyTalk is available as a web application and an iPhone app.

To help facilitate communication between young women and their doctors, BodyTalk also provides a tailored discussion guide as a companion to the risk profile. Young women may also share their risk profile with their doctor electronically.

BodyTalk is social, synchronous and, most importantly, secure. It features:

•A HIPAA-compliant database that is encrypted and protected against unauthorized access.
•Users are in control of their own data at all times – sharing functionality is not automatic.
•If connected to the Internet, data entered into either the mobile app or the website is immediately mirrored on the other platform. Educational content is also synchronized between mobile app and website so it is easily kept up to date by the content owners.
•Links to educational information or support resources may be shared via social media, e.g. Facebook and Twitter.
