Would you like to know how much electricity you are consuming at any given point in time in your home or office?

Would you like to know how much each separate electrical device is consuming?

If you have an static (electronic) energy meter and an iPhone, or an iPad with a camera, than this could be done extremely easily.

First, activate application "AC Power".

Next, point the camera directly towards the blinking light indicator of the energy meter, while making sure the light indicator appears in the red square of the left display window.
In the right display window you should be able to see an enlarged image of the part of the picture from the left display window.
Slowly move the camera closer to the light indicator, so that the picture of the light indicator covers more than 40-50% of the right display window.
If well positioned, the controlling indicator (a circle underneath the right display window) starts blinking in line with the light indicator of the electronic meter. Press the "START" button and after two blinks, you will receive the value of the currently consumed electricity, as measured by the particular energy meter.

By switching on and off the various electrical devices at your disposal, you will be able to determine their specific consumption and optimize your overall consumption of electricity.

To check whether the energy meter is measuring correctly, perform one measurement, after which turn on an electrical device, which electrical consumption you knew in advance. Then, perform a second measurement of the consumption and compare the difference with the known consumption of the electrical device.

All electronic meters have a light indicator light, which blinks proportionally to the currently consumed electricity.
The connection between the blinking and the consumption level is called "Metrology constant" of the energy meter.
Prior to the measurement, make sure to choose the appropriate metrology constant from the "Settings" menu.
This is a number indicated on the energy meter and is measured in "imp/kWh" or "Wh/imp". Choose the appropriate measurement units and enter the number.
For some energy meters "Kh" is used instead of "Wh/imp".

The measurement could be performed only if the blinking light indicator of the electronic meter is NOT infrared, but in visible light.

In the presence of strong surrounding light, make sure to increase "Sensitivity". In a darker atmosphere reduce "Sensitivity".

CAUTION: Prior to the measurement take all precautions to ensure that the area around the energy meter is safe. Exposed wires or metal parts under high voltage could be extremely dangerous.
